Program
At most twelve Ph.D. students each receive a slot of 60 minutes during the OTM Academy.
- Each student makes a formal presentation of his/her work during 15 minutes. Subsequently the audience can ask questions to the presenting author as well for about 5 minutes.
- At least two accompanying professors give critical comments and positive suggestions in a constructive and friendly atmosphere for another 20 minutes. These accompanying professors will have studied the camera ready version. They also take into account the wishes from the presenting author and his/her supervisor as expressed in the accompanying letters.
- Another 20 minutes are reserved for expert feedback on writing and presentation skills.
Each session is concluded by a poster sessions during which the students present their poster for about 5 minutes. The OTMA faculty and audience can comment and ask clarifications for about 10 minutes.
The OTM Academy will start with a general presentation on Ph.D. research in general by the OTMA dean. Optionally, additional keynotes can address issues related to Ph.D. research and the professional career afterwards.
In addition, a special paper peer reviewing exercise will be organised. The Ph.D. students have to review each other's accepted paper on beforehand. During the OTMA review session, they will discuss their comments together with the OTMA faculty.
The Ph.D. students are also offered the opportunity to participate in the regular poster sessions of the OTM conferences that best fits their area of work. OTM Academy faculty members will give feedback on the posters.
The poster has to prepared according to the overall OTM guidelines regarding dimensions and material. Poster authors will be provided with easels to display their posters. Precise location to be announced locally. The panel size is approximately 2,07m x 2,5m. Note that you should NOT prepare a separate poster paper.
Ph.D. students registered for the OTM Academy are expected to participate in all OTM Academy sessions during the entire two days.
