What is it about ?

The OTM Academy offers Ph.D. students at any stage of their Ph.D. research the opportunity to present their work to the larger OTM research community, exchange ideas with fellow Ph.D. students and seasoned researchers, receive constructive feedback on all aspects of their work from international experts, acquire refreshing inspiration from other OTM presentations and extend their professional network in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Accepted presenters at the OTM Academy enjoy a substantial reduction on the registration fee as well as an “all OTM event access”.

The workshop lasts one or two days. At maximum twelve students can be accepted as presenting authors.

Why submit ?

When was the last time you were thinking about the state of your Ph.D. thesis? Have you ever written a paper about your Ph.D. thesis as such convincing people that what you are doing makes sense and is different from or better than existing solutions? Have you ever explained to someone exactly why you propose your solution?

In writing a paper for the OTM Academy, you have to think, write and convince your audience about all these points. In return, you will receive feedback, guidance and support from others going through the same experience. What should be the content of such a paper? Different from other papers, this paper addresses specifically your thesis, that is the thesis, the whole thesis and nothing but the thesis. Needless to say, your (principal) advisor can help you with this. You should answer questions like:

  • What is the problem being addressed in your thesis?
  • What is the research method you have chosen and why
  • What is the solution you are proposing?
  • How does it relate to existing work?
  • What is the state of your thesis?
  • What have you done so far?
  • What are your future plans?

You will not only learn from the discussions about your own work, but also from other Ph.D. students in action! The best way to learn how to present your work may be from seeing both good and not so good examples. In any event, the OTM Academy provides a friendly and supportive forum for such experiences. Importantly, during two days there will be lots of time to get to know other people from a range of countries and backgrounds as you can participate in any OTM event of the entire conference. And have fun as well as work!

Who will be there ?

Prominent researchers in the field of information systems will participate at the OTM Academy. They read your paper, listen to your talk and give you advice and comments. In addition, communication experts are present to help you improve your writing and presentation skills. You will get to know these OTM Academy members during the two days, having the possibility to discuss your work with them and to ask them any kind of questions. And they might even introduce you to their peers. Now, it is up to you to take this chance and submit a paper to the OTM Academy !
